Case Study · Rubinet

Millions of SKUs.
One catalog the customer can navigate.

Rubinet makes premium faucets and fixtures out of Canada. Their catalog runs to more than four million SKU combinations. We built the website, the iOS app, and the data system that keeps both in lockstep.

The Brief

A catalog at a scale off-the-shelf CMSs can't carry.

Rubinet has spent decades earning a reputation for craftsmanship and configuration depth. The catalog is the product. Every line, every finish, every dimension is a real combination a customer can specify and order.

At four million combinations, that catalog had outgrown what an off-the-shelf CMS could manage. Every product page needed its own images, spec sheets, and pricing. The brief was to build a system that could generate that material at scale, and keep the website and a companion iOS app in sync as it did. No re-keying. No drift.

What We Shipped

What the platform actually does for Rubinet.

A catalog engine built for configurable products

A custom data system that generates over 1,200 complete SKUs in seconds, with images, specification documents, and pricing included. The same engine powers the website and the iOS app, so finishes, configurations, and product data stay in sync across every customer touchpoint.

A configurator the customer can actually use

Refined visuals, advanced search, and filtering tuned to the breadth of the Rubinet line. Customers explore finishes, configurations, and dimensions and visualize a selection before they decide. Designed for the person evaluating premium fixtures, not for a generic catalog.

Product pages built for premium fixtures

High-resolution imagery, finish swatches, technical drawings, and downloadable specification documents on every product. The detail a designer or specifier expects, presented with the brand discipline the products deserve.

A website and an iOS app sharing one catalog

Every product change flows to both surfaces in real time. The website, the app, and the data system that drives them were built as one platform. Same experience whether the customer opens a browser or opens the app on a job site.

By the Numbers

1,200+
Complete SKUs generated in seconds

The catalog engine produces complete SKUs at a rate measured in seconds, not days. Images, specification documents, finish data, and pricing, all generated together. New product lines, finish changes, and pricing updates flow through the system without anyone re-keying them.

That's the layer underneath everything else on this case study. The website, the app, the configurator, the product pages. They're all reading from the same engine.

How We Built It

Four phases. One process we run on every custom build.

01

Discovery

A working partnership with the Rubinet product team to understand the brand, the breadth of the catalog, and how customers actually evaluate and specify premium fixtures. The map that came out of it shaped every decision after.

02

Design

An interface that fits the Rubinet brand and lets the customer move through millions of combinations without friction. Search and filtering tuned to the catalog. Product pages built for fixtures, not retrofitted from a template.

03

Build

Custom engineering on the data layer, the website, and the iOS app, all sharing one catalog. Real-time updates land everywhere at once. Mobile-first across desktop, tablet, and phone.

04

Launch & Support

Hosting, monitoring, and ongoing platform support across the website and the app. The platform is part of how Rubinet operates. It keeps getting better after launch.

Designed for Rubinet

Custom design work, not a stock template.

The site was designed and engineered by our in-house team for this brand, this catalog, and the way Rubinet actually sells. A few of the Rubinet-specific pieces we built:

  • Two ways through the same catalog
Customers browse by Series, across R10, Genesis, Raven, Matthew Quinn, and the rest of the 14 design lines, or by Category, across 12 product types from lavatory faucets to rough-ins. Two parallel taxonomies on the same SKUs, for two different ways a customer might shop.
  • 25 standard finishes, plus bespoke
Rubinet finishes its products in-house and offers a standard selection of 25 finishes with the ability to create custom ones on request. We built a finish library that reflects that depth and lets the catalog reach across all of it.
  • Built the way a manufacturer sells
No direct checkout. Customers save products to a My Rubinet wishlist, pull price lists in PDF, digital flipbook, or Excel formats, in USD, CAD, and French, then locate the nearest dealer through Where to Buy. The site mirrors how Rubinet actually moves a product from interest to order.

The Rubinet App

The catalog, mobile-first.

The iOS companion app reads from the same catalog the website does. A designer on a job site, a homeowner researching a kitchen, a rep showing finishes to a client. Same content, mobile-optimized. Built as part of the same platform, not a port of the site.

  • Browse every product line and every finish.
  • Spec sheets and dimensions, downloadable on the spot.
  • Save and share configurations from anywhere.
  • Real-time sync with rubinet.com.

Built by HomeSource

A custom platform for a catalog this complex.

Rubinet runs on a custom HomeSource build, designed and engineered by our in-house team. The website, the iOS app, and the catalog engine that powers both were built together as one platform, specifically for the way Rubinet sells.

One catalog. Two surfaces. In sync.

Every product change flows to the website and the iOS app in real time. New finishes, new lines, pricing updates. They land everywhere at once. No re-keying. No drift between channels.

Built by a team that designs for this industry.

Configurable catalogs, finish exploration, technical documentation, manufacturer-grade product data. Built specifically for how appliance, furniture, plumbing, and fixture brands present their work.

Designed and built by the HomeSource team.

No site builder. No template marketplace. Our in-house design and engineering team built Rubinet's platform from the data layer up.
