The Brief

One website. Three kinds of customer. The same data as the floor.

ABW, short for Appliances A Better Way, has been selling premium kitchen and laundry appliances in the DC and Baltimore Metro area since 1968. The business grew into five retail showrooms across Maryland and Virginia, a dedicated clearance outlet, a luxury deals storefront, and a Builder Development Group that serves the trade.

The old website ran on its own data. Inventory on the site was one number, inventory on the floor was another, and someone on the team spent every day making them match. The brief was to fix that. One storefront for all the ways ABW sells, running on the same data as the showroom. No reconciling. No re-keying. No mismatch.

What We Shipped

What the site actually does for ABW.

Three customer types, one storefront

Homeowners, designers, and the trade each get the version of the site that fits them. Same catalog underneath. ABW runs one site, not three.

A catalog that matches the way appliances are sold

Category, brand, finish, fuel type, dimensions, price. The way the floor talks about the catalog. The filter URL is shareable, so a designer can send a curated list straight to a client.

A shopping cart the sales floor can finish in person

Trade clients build a multi-unit order online. The team picks the cart up where the customer left off and closes it on the floor. One cart. One record. One conversation.

Product pages built for appliance shoppers

Specs, finishes, dimensions and clearances, manufacturer rebates, high-resolution imagery. A buy box that handles homeowner checkout and trade quoting from the same product page.

A site that stays current on its own

New products from the manufacturer feed appear on the site automatically. Price changes, including rebates and promos, flow to product pages without anyone re-keying them.

Search that finds the closest showroom

Per-location SEO and structured data tuned to the DC and Baltimore corridor. A homeowner in Bethesda finds the Bethesda showroom, not a competitor.

How We Built It

Four phases. One process we run on every custom build.

01

Discovery

A working call with your team to understand the brand, the catalog, the customer types, and how you sell today. We come out of it with a map of the buyer journeys and where the current site is getting in the way.

02

Design

Three entry paths. A filter taxonomy that designers and homeowners can both navigate. A trade quote flow the BDG team will actually use. Product pages built for appliances, not retrofitted from a template.

03

Build

Custom storefront engineering on HomeSource Commerce. Accessible product pages, fast catalog browsing, per-location SEO, mobile-first checkout. The site and the showroom run on one set of data from launch day.

04

Launch & Support

Hosting, monitoring, conversion analytics, and ongoing platform support. The site is part of the platform. It keeps getting better after launch.

Designed for ABW Appliances

Custom design work, not a stock template.

The visual layer was designed and engineered by our in-house team for this dealer, this brand, and this audience. A few of the dealer-specific pieces we built:

  • Shop by Rebates merchandising

A dedicated section at /shop-by-rebates with brand-specific landing pages for GE, Cafe, Bosch, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and LG. Each rebate gets its own editorial copy and creative. Marketing publishes a promotion; the layout knows what to do.

  • Five showrooms, five identities

Arlington, Ashburn, North Bethesda, Jessup, and Pikesville each get their own landing page with team, hours, phone, and a map. Per-location SEO tuned for the DC and Baltimore Metro corridor. A homeowner in Bethesda finds North Bethesda, not a competitor.

  • Trade Professional doorway

ABW's Builder Development Group runs on its own phone line and contact path. The site reflects that with a separate Trade Professional entry point for builders and contractors, distinct from the homeowner shopping flow. Two audiences. One catalog. The right doorway for each.

Built on HomeSource Commerce

Online and in-store, one operation.

ABW runs on a custom HomeSource Commerce build, designed and engineered by our in-house team. HomeSource Commerce is the e-commerce platform built specifically for independent appliance, furniture, and plumbing retailers. The site is part of the same system that runs the sales floor, so the team works in one place instead of two.

Your website and your POS share the same data.

Every online sale updates inventory in HomeSource the moment it happens. Every floor sale updates the website. Pricing changes from manufacturers flow to product pages automatically. No reconciliation. No drift.

Built by a team that designs for this industry.

Catalog structures, product specs, finish swatches, rebate callouts, delivery zone logic, multi-location SEO. Designed in for appliance, furniture, and plumbing retailers. Not retrofitted from a fashion or DTC template.

Designed and built by the HomeSource team.

No site builder. No template marketplace. Our in-house design team works with you to build a custom storefront on top of the platform that runs your business.
