Kerry Symons will tell you straight: Perryton Furniture is more than a furniture store. They do the whole house. Furniture, appliances, art, decor, rugs. If it goes in a home, they carry it. The business has been a fixture in Perryton, Texas for 107 years, and Kerry and his wife bought it six years ago from the third-generation family that built it.
After a tornado forced a full rebuild of the store, Kerry knew the business needed more than new infrastructure. The old website provider wasn’t cutting it. The old software had run its course. Running a whole-house retail operation on a system built for basic bookkeeping meant no way to track inventory across product categories, no unified sales reporting, and no connection between what they sold and where customers came from.
“We were ancient,” Kerry said. “We were on QuickBooks.”
Perryton Furniture needed a platform that could actually run the business. Website, point of sale, inventory, reporting, marketing. Connected, not cobbled together. Through their buying group membership, they were referred to HomeSource Systems.
Why Perryton Chose HomeSource
Kerry didn’t go in blind. He talked to Chris Smyth on the HomeSource sales team, weighed the options, and made a practical decision.
HomeSource cost more than the alternatives. Kerry chose them anyway. The value was clear: a connected system purpose-built for how furniture and appliance retailers actually operate, backed by a team that would show up in person to implement it.
“It was a very important part of us making the decision to use HomeSource by having people that came here,” Kerry said. On-site support wasn’t a nice-to-have. It was the deciding factor.
The Go-Live: Point of Sale and Website Together
Perryton Furniture’s go-live covered both the point of sale system and the website. A full platform transition. The HomeSource implementation team was on every Zoom call during the lead-up, and then they came to Perryton in person to work through the go-live on the ground.
John Hendrickson led the implementation on-site alongside Amy and Adam. Each brought something different to the table. John and Amy handled the appliance side of the business. Adam brought real furniture industry experience, which mattered when explaining to Kerry’s younger staff members why certain workflows existed. Tanner, Perryton’s Warehouse Manager along with other duties, helped bridge the generational gap, making sure team members of all comfort levels with technology could get up to speed.
“I’m not going to say that there were no bumps in the road at all,” Kerry said, “but they kind of smoothed those out for us. And still are continuing to smooth those bumps out.”
That honesty is worth noting. Software transitions are never effortless, and Kerry doesn’t pretend this one was. What made the difference was that the HomeSource team was there on-site with them. Not just during go-live, but after.
“After they left, the hypercare with Amy and John was exceptional,” Kerry said.
What Changed With Modern Furniture Store Software
Before HomeSource, receiving inventory at Perryton Furniture meant pulling products off the truck, writing everything down on paper, walking to the office, cross-referencing purchase orders, and then manually entering it all into QuickBooks. That process alone ate hours every delivery day.
Now, receiving happens inside the system. Scan it, confirm it, move on. Kerry estimated that receiving alone has already saved meaningful time, and the store is still early in its adoption.
Scheduling and Deliveries
Scheduling deliveries is next. Where the store previously managed delivery coordination manually, HomeSource CBMS brings that into the same connected platform. No more chasing paper between departments.
Connected Sales and Marketing Reporting
The reporting has been a particular bright spot. Kerry can now pull sales reports that tie directly into the marketing work Austin and Samantha on the HomeSource Marketing team are doing for the store. That connection between what’s selling and where traffic is coming from didn’t exist before.
“The reports are amazing,” Kerry said. “These reports tie in with the sales reports… I can see the big picture now.”
Cloud Access From Anywhere
And the whole system is cloud-based. Kerry can check on his store from his laptop, his desktop, or his phone.
“I love that it’s all in the cloud,” he said. “I can look and see whether I’m on my laptop or my desktop, or I guess I could even do it from my phone.”
From the Implementation Team
John Hendrickson, who led the on-site go-live, called it a standout.
“It was a huge success for us in terms of a furniture go-live,” John said. “It went out really well. Getting inventory onto the showroom floors from day one made all the difference.”
For a store that carries furniture, appliances, decor, and everything in between, across a building that includes a mezzanine floor, getting the inventory right from day one was critical. The team got it done.
What’s Next
Kerry is already mapping out what comes next. The HomeSource Marketing team is actively working to increase foot traffic to the store, and the connected data between CBMS and Marketing shows Kerry exactly what’s driving customers through the door.
When asked what he’d tell another retailer considering the switch, Kerry didn’t hesitate.
“I would highly recommend it. I would recommend you, and your team, to anyone that was interested in a new system. I love how everything is going to sync together. It’s exciting.”
